About Us

Whether you are a current community member of the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union, considering a move to the area, or just stopping by - welcome! SVSU is made up of seven public elementary schools, a middle school, a high school, a middle/high school and an early education program with two locations. We serve over three thousand learners a year in five Southern Vermont towns.

We pride ourselves in making sure all members of our community are represented in our schools, serving not only our students, but their families and extended families. Through thriving community programs, such as developmental screenings at the pre-k level, and free lunch for all of our students, we strive to cultivate a community of lifelong learners.

In an effort to make SVSU more equitable, we've revamped our website to make it compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Though ADA became a law in 1990, it has been interpreted and expanded in recent years to reflect the virtual age. This means that our website is now able to be read by screen readers, tools that our visually impaired neighbors use to surf the web, among other improvements.

I encourage you to explore our new site. Check out the new way our Board documents are displayed. You will also be able to locate the policies and procedures we use to ensure equity for our whole community. We're hopeful that you will find the resources for students and families helpful as you navigate your time learning with SVSU.

Take some time to explore. And thank you for stopping by,
James Culkeen
SVSU Superintendent
