Harassment, Hazing, and Bullying (HHB)

Know Your Rights & How to Speak Up
You deserve to feel safe at school – physically, emotionally, and mentally. Harassment, hazing, and bullying aren’t just hurtful; it’s not allowed. SVSU is committed to protecting you under Policy 5004: Prevention of Harassment, Hazing & Bullying. This policy ensures that everyone in our school community is treated with respect and dignity.
What Counts as Harassment, Hazing, or Bullying?
Harassment: Any unwanted behavior – spoken, written, or electronic – based on race, gender, disability, or other personal traits that creates a hostile or intimidating environment.
  • Bullying: Repeated acts meant to scare, intimidate, or harm someone, even if not always based on protected traits.
  • Hazing: Any actions that embarrass, humiliate, or harm someone as part of joining a group – SVSU prohibits this entirely.
I’m Experiencing Something – What Should I Do?
  1. Talk to a trusted adult. Reach out to your guidance counselor, principal, or another trusted staff member; they’ll help you take the next steps.
  2. Submit your report. When you talk to a designated employee or administrator, they’ll help you complete a Student Conduct Form to officially log the concern.
  3. SVSU Responds. Once reported, SVSU investigates carefully and promptly. You stay informed and supported through the process.

If you’re feeling

Do this

Scared, intimidated or disrespected

Reach out to your counselor or trusted adult – this is serious, and SVSU supports you.

Pressured or humiliated to join a group

That’s hazing—report it right away to a designated school staff.

Unsure if an action counts as bullying

Talk it over with someone you trust—it helps to talk it out.

Facing discrimination due to identity

SVSU takes this seriously and will investigate every incident.
